Dragons Send 6 to CICL All-Star Game!!!

 
 

July 15, 2008 | LISLE, IL The DuPage Dragons would like to congratulate the following players on their inclusion in the 2008 CICL All-Star game; Brian Stroud, Brad Riegler, Ryan Copeland, Phil Wunderlich, Ryan Duffy, and Matt Behren.  Stroud, Riegler, and Copeland made the team based on their performances on the mound, Wunderlich (first base) and Behren (catcher) due to their accomplishments in the field as well as with the bat, and Ryan Duffy (designated hitter) based on his offensive output.

Brian Stroud, a freshman at Western Michigan University, is 1-2 on the season after 4 starts and 6 appearances.   He makes the All-Star team currently boasting the lowest ERA in the league at 0.62, over 1 point lower than the next closest pitcher.   Through 29 innings, he has 2 saves, has tallied 20 strikeouts, 6 walks, and allowed just 2 earned runs while yielding just 18 hits.

Brad Riegler, a junior at University of Illinois Chicago, is 2-1 on the season through 4 starts and 9 appearances.  This season Riegler has appeared as both a starter and a reliever.  Through 30 innings pitched, Riegler’s ERA ranks 5th in the CICL at 2.10 with 1 save, 26 strikeouts and just 8 walks.

Ryan Copeland, a sophomore at Illinois State University, is a perfect 2-0 on the season after 4 starts.  He sports a 2.19 ERA through 24 & 2/3 innings pitched, Copeland continues to be a key component of the Dragons’ success.  He currently leads the Dragons with 33 strikeouts against only 8 walks.

Phil Wunderlich, a freshman from the University of Louisville, makes the All-Star team with a .318 batting average, 9 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homerun, and 17 RBIs.
Ryan Duffy, a junior at Mississippi State University, currently ranks 6th in the CICL with a .344 batting average.  In just 16 games played, Duffy has 22 hits, 12 runs scored, 8 doubles and 2 homeruns.

Matt Behren, a junior at Northern Illinois University, ranks 7th in the CICL with a .342 batting average.  Behren has started all 28 games for the Dragons, with 17 RBIs, 38 hits, 11 doubles and 2 homeruns.  Aside from his offensive statistics, Behren has played exceptional defense behind the dish.  He has a .980 fielding percentage and has thrown out 11 of the 36 possible base stealers, good for a 30.5% rate.

The All-Star game will be played on Monday, July 21st at Dubois County Stadium, in Huntingburg, Indiana.  The game time is at 6:30, and will stake the CICL all-stars vs. Kentucky-Indiana-Tennessee (KIT) League All-stars.  With 6 all-stars, the Dragons have the 2nd most players in the entire league, behind the Springfield Sliders.
