Dragons Sing the Blues, Drop to .500
in 9-6 Loss to BlueSox

Wednesday July 1, 2009
Lisle, IL
Tim Wealton

The Dupage Dragons looked to improve to 12 and 10, sending Steve Sabatino while hosting the Butler BlueSox at the Benedictine Sports Complex in Lisle, IL.

The Dragons fell behind early after a grand slam from Brian Biligen, who put the BlueSox ahead 4-0.  Steve Sabatino, (Lockport, IL/Notre Dame), gave up the slam after allowing two singles and a walk, before getting Zachary Noonan to pop out and end the inning.

To lead off the bottom of the third, Andrew Brauer, (Bolingbrook, IL/ College of DuPage), would walk and get a base runner on, but a double play would quickly put two outs on the board.  Newcomer Brian Martin, (Glen Ellyn, IL/College of DuPage), would walk, but a strikeout to Austin Kingsolver, (Dana Point, CA/Cal-State Fullerton) would close the books on the 3rd.

Biligen would continue to work against Sabatino, singling the lead off the 5th, and a walk to Zachary Noonan would put two runners on, with no outs.  An error allowed Sean Gusrang to reach and drive in another run to put the BlueSox up 5-0.  The BlueSox would get their sixth run of the game on a bloop single from Ryan McChesney, followed by a 2-RBI double from Brett Zurlene, to put the BlueSox ahead 8-0 through five innings.

Going into the inning trailing by 8 runs, the Dragons had a lot of ground to cover, and they came out on fire.  Five straight base hits were part of the action.  A two RBI-single from Andrew Brauer would put the first two runs of the inning on the board for the Dragons.  Brian Martin would continue his success for the Dragons with an RBI-single.  Still threatening, the Dragons would pplate their fourth run of the inning on the strength of a RBI-single from Adam Davis, (Bloomingdale, IL/University of Illinois).  Matt Miribal, (Chicago, IL/Illinois State University), kept the inning alive, driving in a run with the bases loaded after being hit by a pitch, though two strikeouts would end the eventful inning.

A pair of singles in the top of the 8th from Aaron Ordy and Brian Biligen, would put runners on,  before an RBI from Brian Youchak put the BlueSox ahead 9-6.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Dragons showed signs of life again, putting two runners on with two outs, but Anthony Munoz would strike out Grant Filipitch to end the game.

The final score from Lisle, Butler BlueSox 9, Dupage Dragons 6.
