June 7th, 2009, Quincy, IL -The Dupage Dragons put an impressive six runs on the board Saturday night, but it was not enough to compete with a surging Quincy Gems team, who defeated the Dragons 14-6.
After strong pitching carried the Dragons through their first two victories, starting pitcher Brian Roberts struggled with his command on the mound allowing nine hits, and 6 earned runs over four innings.
The Gems impressive hitting performance was centered around leftfielder Jordan Hood, whose seven RBI's powered Quincy past Dupage. The Dragons received run scoring hits from Austin Kingsolver, Marvin Sanchez, Grant Fillipitch, Taylor Dennis and Matthew Mirabal, but it wasn't enough as their record dropped to 2-1.
The Dragons amassed 12 hits, continuing to show why their offense is so highly touted, but with an off-night from the pitchers, it wasn't enough to chalk up another W.
The Dragons will look to put tonight’s performance behind them as they battle Quincy tomorrow night in the second of this two game set. If the Dragons can swing the bats as they did this evening and keep Quincy hitters off base, they will put themselves in a great position for a win. Coming home with a 3-1 record to start the season would be a great way to kick off 2009.
The Dragons home opener is slated for 7:05 pm on Tuesday, June 9th against the defending champion Springfield Sliders. Tickets are available by calling the Dragons’ ticket office at 630-241-2255 or by purchasing online at www.dupagedragons.com.
