June 5th, 2009 | Lisle, IL The Dupage Dragons started their season off right with a 4-0 victory over the Hannibal Caveman. Starting pitcher Brad Riegler carried a 4-hit shutout into the 8th inning, striking out 4, while only walking one to earn the win. Tom Zelasko struck out two of the three hitters he faced in the ninth inning to close out the victory.
The Dragons defense was nearly perfect, committing only one error during Thursday night’s game. The Cavemen however allowed an two extra runs to cross the plate due to two of the three errors credited to Hannibal.
Centerfielder and leadoff hitter Austin Kingsolver drove in a run, as did shortstop and clean up hitter Cole Tyrell to spark a Dragons team looking to make a statement early on in the 2009 season.
Coach Mark Viramontes had to be impressed with his team's performance, but will only look to improve tomorrow night as the Dragons continue this two game set with the Cavemen. First pitch is set for 6:35 tomorrow night here in Hannibal.
