Dragons Breathe Fire in Danville,
Dismantle the Dans 10-3

Wednesday June 24, 2009
Huntingburg, IN
Tim Wealton

As the Dupage Dragons took a short break from their home stand to make a day trip down to Danville, the team looks to be gaining some momentum, winning their last two games.

Eric Wagner was on the mound to start the game for the Dragons.  Wagner’s control was spot on in the first, retiring the Dans in order, and allowing his teammates to come up to the dish in the second inning to do some damage.

The Dragons put two on the board in the 2nd inning on the strength of a hard hit ball from Dave Reynolds, and a well-placed grounder from Sean Flanagan,  The Dans would go on to answer the Dragons runs with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Fast forward to the fourth inning where Wagner would allow one more run to the Dans.  Cody Yount would drive it in, before Wagner would battle back in the inning, recording all three outs after allowing runners to get set in scoring position.

The Dragons came out on fire in the fifth, with a Grant Fillipitch single that plated two runs.  An exciting play at the plate saw Andrew Brauer barrel over the Dans catcher Jason Hamm, and score another run, putting the Dragons ahead 7-3.

After four innings from Eric Wagner, Casey Webber would enter the game for the Dragons, and make quick work of the Dans in the 5th.

Pitcher Mark Lamm would allow two hits to the dragons to start off the eighth inning.  Brian Riegler would single in a run, and Austin Kingsolver would drive in another.  With a score of 10-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Dans were not able to put any runs on the board, setting up the ninth inning with the score still 10-3.

Sean Flanagan moved from left field to pitcher in the ninth inning, looking very impressive, in his second pitching appearance of the season, closing out the game for a final score of 10-3.

The Dragons return home for an extended home stand tomorrow and the Benedictine Sports Complex in Lisle, IL.  Visit www.dupagedragons.com for ticket information.
