With their familiar foes, the Dubois County Bombers (7-9) in town, the Dragons (7-7) were looking to push above the .500 mark in the standings. It was the fourth straight game in which the two teams hooked up. Tom Zelasko, who hadn’t allowed a run on the year, was on the mound for the home Dragons. He was up against Darin Worman of the Bombers.
The Dragons lefty got off to a hot start, striking out the first 4 batters he faced. At the plate, The Dragons were strong early. After threatening in the first, the Dragons scored on a deep RBI double to right field from catcher Adam Davis, driving in Dave Reynolds.
Zelasko didn’t let up on the mound after the run. He pitched 6 1/3 giving up only 1 earned run, and striking out for with 5 hits. Unfortunately the Dragons’s bats fell silent. Between the 3rd and 9th inning, the home team was only able to round up 2 hits.
The Bombers would finally score in the 7th. Off a wild pitch from Bryan Roberts, Wes Fink trotted home to tie the score up at 1 apiece. This score would hold up until the bottom of the 10th.
In the 10th, with 1 out and Dave Reynolds at third, newcomer Greg Stolzenburg knew it was his chance to shine. He took a 1-1 fastball into centerfield, scoring Davis, and giving the Dragons the 2-1 walk off win. Despite giving up only 1 run in 9 innings pitched, Darin Worman got the was charged with the loss for the Bombers. Bryan Roberts got the win for the Dragons, who are now 8-7 on the year.
