The Dupage Dragons opened their at-home series against the Dubois County Bombers on the right foot, with a 4-3 victory in what was a very exciting start to the Dragons current homestand.

The Dragons welcomed two new players to the roster in Colin O’Connel and Greg Stolzenburg in dramatic fashion, with both players playing key roles in Monday’s game.  O’Connel, a lanky 6’5 starter from Cal-State Fullerton went 5 innings, striking out 4.  His command was lacking in the first inning, allowing one run to score on a hit from Bombers DH Kyle Richardson and putting the Dragons in a hole.

After evening the score in the 2nd inning, the Dragons settled into a groove, before the Bombers were able to chalk up 2 more runs in the 4th inning.  In the 7th inning, the Dragons were able to put two runners aboard with no outs, and begin their rally.  Capping off the inning was the game-winning hit from leftfielder Matt Kleifges, with an RBI-single.

This would put the Dragons ahead for good, and satisfy a very hungry hometown crowd of 237.  Andy Deain, would strike out the side in the top of the 9th to earn the save, utilizing a very impressive slider.  Steve Sabatino picked up win, while Bombers starter James Page was charged with the loss.

The Dragons will be in action again Tuesday, closing out the series against the Bombers, their 4th game in a row against the team from Huntingburg, Indiana, before heading out for a game against the Danville Dans on Wednesday.
