June 19th 2009, Huntingburg, IN - The Dupage Dragons opened their series with the Dubois County Bombers on the right foot, just edging the home team by a score of 6-5. Coming off a disappointing loss to the Danville Dans the previous night, the Dragons bats came alive amassing 7 hits in the first four innings alone. Every Dragon with the exception of left-fielder Matt Mirabal collected at least one hit in the contest.
Extra-base hits from Austin Kingsolver and Sean Flanagan highlighted a very impressive night for the middle of the Dragons lineup that is missing a hard-hitting bat in Cole Tyrell. Grant Filipitch improved his season average to .342 with two hits on the evening.
Five solid innings from starting pitcher Brad Riegler contributed to the Dragons success. Riegler allowed 8 hits, 1 walk, and 3 earned runs while striking out 3. The winning pitcher was Bryan Roberts, who picked up the victory in 2.2 innings of relief. Things got a little hairy for Roberts who allowed two base runners in his first inning of work, but he managed to strike out the side, including two strikeouts with full counts. Andy Deain picked up the save, while Sean Estand was charged with the loss for the Bombers.
Manager Mark Viramontes employed the use of some small ball, and aggressive base running with Filipitch picking up his 3rd stolen base of the season.
449 were in attendance as the Dragons evened their record at 6-6, getting back to the .500 mark. The Dragons will close out the road trip here in Huntingburg before heading back home for an off day, and starting a two-game home stand against these very same Dubois County Bombers. Will Strack will take the mound on Saturday.
