Two Former Dragons Get the Call as 2009 Major League Draft Conclued

June 11th 2009, Lisle, IL - As the major league draft came to a close today, there were two familiar names that were among those who will be moving on in the baseball world.  Adam Buschini (San Ramon, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) and Connor Powers (Naperville, Mississippi State) saw their names polled in the 4th and 11th rounds respectively.

Buschini, the junior second baseman from California, was a fourth round selection (137th overall) of the Philadelphia Phillies organization.  He finished this past season hitting a school record .422, which ranks him 19th currently in Division I.  He also had 18 doubles, two triples and 11 homeruns.  Buschini was also a first team All Big West Conference selection.  He finished his career No. 6 on the Cal Poly all time RBI’s list over a single season with 61.  Adam continued stamping his name in the Cal Poly record book by coming in at No. 10 on the all-time single season list for his 11 homeruns and 18 doubles.  He earned his team’s Ozzie Smith Most Valuable Player award for his efforts this past year.

While with the Dragons in 2006, Buschini hit at a .252 clip while starting 39 games.  He amassed 37 hits with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 4 homeruns.  He knocked in 25 runs while stealing 15 bases and being caught only once.

Connor Powers, a Naperville native, was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round (337th overall).  Powers came to Mississippi State as a third basemen and started there for two season before moving across the diamond to first base this past season.  There he started 53 of a possible 54 games and hit .301 for the year.  He also cranked 19 homeruns, which led the Bulldogs, and totaled 63 RBI’s.  He scored 49 runs and raked 15 doubles.  He ended the year with a .986 fielding percentage, committing only a single error in 422 opportunities.  He ends his career at Mississippi State with 38 total bombs, good for ninth most in MSU history.

Powers played for the Dragons during the summer of 2007.  He led the team in hitting with a .302 batting average and finished second to MSU teammate Ryan Duffy in homeruns with 5.  He totaled 39 hits and drove home 19 runs.  He was named the MVP of the then CICL All Star game going 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
