May 26th, 2009 | Lisle, IL Even though he was only a freshman, catcher Matt Mirabal was a big part of the Illinois State Redbird’s solid season. The youngster out of Mt. Carmel High School started 39 of his team’s 48 games behind the plate. He batted .243, had 16 RBIs, and a fielding percentage of .973, which was one of the best on the team.
In high school, Matt was a three year letter winner at Mt. Carmel. As a senior, he hit .340, with 40 RBI’s and 5 home runs. He also participated in the Catholic vs. Public All Star Challenge at U.S. Cellular field. As a junior, he lead his team to a conference and regional championship, and was named the #2 catching prospect by Prep Baseball report. Although he may be young, it is obvious that Matt Mirabal will be a solid addition to the Dragon’s roster.
