May 26th, 2009 | Lisle, IL Throughout his first three seasons at Northern Illinos, pitcher Andy Deain became accustom to saving tight games. In his junior season, Deain made 35 relief appearances, had ten saves, and was named to the all MAC team. After a college career coming out of the bullpen, the hard throwing Huskie was ready to make the transition from closer to starter this past season. The righty went 2-0 early, pitching two great games against the University of Missouri, and Southern Illinois University. During these games Deain pitched a combined 13 innings, and allowed only one earned run. Deain finished the year with a 2-0 record, a 4.67 ERA, and has 16 strikeouts.
Along with being named to the All MAC second team as a junior, Deain was on the preseason list for the Brooks Wallace and Roger Clemons award. As a sophomore, he ranked second in the MAC with 33 appearances, which tied a school record. Deain just graduated with a liberal arts and science major. He will be a solid pitcher for Dragons, whether he starts or comes out of the bullpen.
The Dragons home opener is slated for 7:05 pm on Tuesday, June 9th against the defending champion Springfield Sliders. Tickets are available by calling the Dragons’ ticket office at 630-241-2255 or by purchasing online at www.dupagedragons.com.
