March 11, 2009 | Lisle, IL The Dragons are pleased to announce the signings of two lefties out of Florida Atlantic University. Both Brent Adheen and Ahmed Garcia are freshman at FAU and come in with outstanding resumes from their high school days. They both bring great credentials and will look to carry that over to the college game and to the Dragons.
Brent Adheen looms large on the mound, both in stature and stats. A 6 foot 3 inch lefty from Ft. Lauderdale, he won Northeast High Schools Cy Young award for the 2008 season. He was also listed as one of the top collegiate prospects by Perfect Game U.S.A. He was then named one of the top left handed pitchers in the Ft. Lauderdale area from his performance during his senior year. Adheen has taken his lumps early this season, but only a freshman; there is plenty of time to right the ship. So far this season Brent has made three appearances with two starts and has registered an 8.59 ERA. He has thrown 7 1/3 innings and has 4 strikeouts.
Ahmed Garcia parlayed a fantastic senior year in high school into numerous post season accolades and a spot on the Florida Atlantic roster. He finished his senior year at South Miami Senior High with a 9-1 overall record and a 0.98 ERA. He had seven complete games that season to go with his impressive record. That led him to be named a 6A-5A First Team All State selection by the Miami Herald. He was also named a 6A All State member by the Florida Sports Writers Association, only one of four pitchers in the entire state to earn that honor. This season Garcia has worked primarily out of the Owls bullpen. He has made 5 appearances and thrown 8 2/3 innings. His ERA currently stands at 3.12 and he has rung up 5 strikeouts against only 3 walks. He has limited opponents to a .265 batting average against.
